The timing of the Sichuan Earthquake at 2:28pm on May 12, a school day, had a particularly devastating consequence: many of the victims were children. Over 7,000 schools collapsed, affecting more than 3 million children.

In response to the worst natural disaster to strike China in over 30 years, School Aid and Save the Children have launched an opportunity for Australian school students to support and learn about the experiences of children affected by the Sichuan Earthquake.

Each Life Story includes a first hand account of a child affected by the earthquake, to which Australian students can respond.  School Aid will showcase Australian schools' responses on the website.

In addition, schools can fundraise for essential education materials to be supplied directly to quake-affected students in China by Save the Children. These include:

Student desks and chairs AUD$25 each
Teacher desks and chairs AUD$31 each
Blackboards and chalk AUD$102 each

Here's how to get involved:
  • Choose a Life Story
  • Read and discuss your chosen Story
  • Send a response to the Story and it will be shown on the website.  Email admin@schoolaid.org.au
  • Register your group
  • Donate to the China Appeal by 1 December

The China Earthquake Appeal closes 1 December
