A teacher's influence

SchoolAid is focused on student-led action, however the teacher's role in empowering and supporting students throughout projects is integral to the process.

As many teachers are already working with a group, such as a Student Representative Council (SRC) or their class, the time taken on SchoolAid Project activities can usually fit within existing timetables. The time commitment will of course vary significantly depending on the nature of the particular group, the school and the particular project chosen.

All participating schools must be registered by a teacher or staff member who will act as a facilitator for their action group who can access online resources, information and fact sheets.

  •  Register the group through the SchoolAid website. For child protection reasons, the teacher is responsible for registration of all projects.

Practical considerations for teachers

  • Arranging access to photocopiers, computers, phone;
  • Ensuring that the Principal and other staff members are supportive;
  • Understanding public liability and parental consent issues;
  • Supporting students to connect with appropriate community groups;
  • Overseeing financial arrangements and if necessary, providing use of a school account for depositing raised funds;
  • Ensuring students follow school guidelines and are aware of relevant procedures.
